From Year 6 to High School

Local secondary schools organise information sessions (usually in Term 1 or 2) and transition sessions for prospective students.

Grade 6 students are usually invited to spend a morning at the local secondary school accompanied by their class teachers.  These visits are to show students around the college and to give them an idea of what programs the school has to offer.

A staff member at Yarraville West coordinates the Year 6 to 7 transition program and will keep parents informed of the timeline for the program throughout the year. An Orientation Day is usually held on a Tuesday early in December for Government schools.  All Grade 6 students spend this day at their new school.

Supporting parents and carers

The Year 6 to 7 placement information pack for parents/carers provides guidance to assist families of Year 6 students moving to a government school in 2027.
