Intervention and Excellence

At Yarraville West Primary, we work together to support and challenge students in their learning. This involves creating a learning environment that provides both the necessary assistance and opportunities for growth. This includes providing individualised support, differentiated instruction, and opportunities for students to extend their learning beyond the basic curriculum. We adapt the curriculum within the classroom at the point of need to ensure that each child has an opportunity to reach their potential, regardless of the starting point.

At Yarraville West, differentiation is embedded into the everyday classroom practice, ensuring that all students, regardless of their abilities, are engaged in learning that is suitably challenging. Teachers adapt the curriculum to meet the varying needs of students by providing different pathways, resources, and support, ensuring every child is appropriately extended and supported in their learning journey. These programs, alongside differentiated teaching, are integral to Yarraville West Primary School's commitment to fostering a stimulating learning environment that recognizes and nurtures the unique abilities of each student.

Victorian High-Ability Program (VHAP)
The Victorian High Ability Program, is a 10-week online program for our Year 5 and 6 students. The program focuses on tasks that stimulate students' critical thinking, problem-solving and creativity skills – enriching their understanding of English and Mathematics. Through engaging and challenging activities, students are encouraged to explore complex concepts and hone their abilities in a supportive, collaborative environment. The program is designed to not only stretch students' academic capabilities but also to inspire a love for learning by connecting them with like-minded peers and experienced educators.

Victorian Challenge and Enrichment Series (VCES)
Students who have been identified as highly-abled have the opportunity to participate in the Victorian Challenge and Enrichment Series. This program provides extension and enriching activities. Within the series, education expert partners deliver a suite of virtual incursions across all curriculum areas, such as Literacy, Numeracy, Arts and Social/Emotional Literacy. Exciting formats include, but are not limited to, workshops, tutorials, conferences, lectures and competitions.
